Non-monetary financial institutions, except insurance corporations and pension funds

This statistical dataset provides a broad and structured overview of the activity and financial position of non-monetary financial institutions in Spain, excluding insurance corporations and pension funds, within the framework of the Financial Accounts of the Spanish Economy, compiled in accordance with the European System of Accounts (ESA 2010). The series contain balance-sheet data and cover a wide range of financial instruments and institutional sectors, making it possible to analyse the interrelationships among different economic agents and their role in financial intermediation.

Data are included for the following types of entities: non-money market investment funds, financial vehicle corporations, venture capital companies, listed real-estate investment companies, securities dealers, central counterparties, mutual guarantee companies, management companies, payment institutions, securities agencies, financial group head offices, holding companies and other specialised financial entities.

With regard to financial instruments, the series allow analysis of the distribution across: currency and deposits, loans, debt securities (short- and long-term), shares and other equity, investment fund shares or units, financial derivatives and other assets and liabilities.

The institutional coverage includes both resident and non-resident sectors, with counterparties comprising non-financial corporations, monetary financial institutions, general government, households and non-profit institutions serving households (NPISHs), and the rest of the world. The reference currency is the euro, although the series allow for the analysis of consolidated positions regardless of the currency in which transactions originate.

This dataset contributes to both national and European statistics, strengthening international comparability and consistency with the methodological frameworks of Eurostat and the European System of Central Banks. Its thematic and sectoral breadth makes it an essential tool for analysing the Spanish financial system, assessing risks, and understanding financial flows and positions across sectors.
