General government debt according to the Excessive Deficit Procedure (EDP)

This dataset provides comprehensive information on General Government debt under the Excessive Deficit Procedure (EDP), compiled in accordance with the European System of Accounts (ESA 2010), the harmonised methodological framework used across the European Union. The statistics enable the analysis of the level, structure and evolution of public debt in Spain, and support fiscal surveillance and cross-country comparability within the EU economic governance framework.

The data are available at quarterly and annual frequency, expressed in absolute terms (thousands or millions of euros) and as a percentage of GDP at market prices. They offer extensive breakdowns by institutional sector, including Central Government (the core Central Government and other Central Government bodies), Regional Government, Local Government and Social Security Funds. Further detail is provided by type of public entity and institutional grouping (municipalities, provincial councils, island councils, universities or other public units), as well as territorial information by state government and also those municipalities that are -or had been- above 300.000 inhabitants.

The dataset covers the main EDP government debt variables, including total government debt, at nominal value, its composition by financial instrument (currency and deposits, debt securities and loans), by maturity (short-term and long-term), and by holder sector (other general government units, resident financial institutions, the Banco de España and the rest of the world). In addition, it includes data on financial assets and liabilities, adjustments for transactions not included in EDP debt changes, government guarantees (contingent liabilities), net debt of financial assets, and other components relevant for fiscal analysis.
