This dataset includes a range of competitiveness indicators, expressed both in nominal terms (nominal effective exchange rate) and in real terms, constructed using different price and cost deflators. The deflators applied are consumer price indices, industrial producer prices, unit labour costs, unit labour costs in the manufacturing sector, and export unit values.
These indicators relate to Spain and are calculated vis à vis groups of trading partners such as the EU-27, the euro area, developed countries, industrialised countries, and the newly industrialised Asian economies, in accordance with standard methodological practices in European economic statistics. In addition, as supplementary information, nominal and real effective exchange rates are published for countries other than Spain, deflated by consumer price indices, vis à vis developed countries.
Competitiveness series are generally presented as index numbers with a base period set to the first quarter of 1999.
